How to choose a FiveM phone script

A checklist for server owners comparing phone scripts: what to measure yourself, what a license should actually cover, how the market is priced right now, and where GKSPHONE fits.

The phone is the interface your players open more than any other. It carries messages, calls, money, jobs, social feeds and half of the roleplay that happens between events. It is also one of the hardest scripts to replace later, because contacts, messages, photos and app data live inside it. Choosing one is closer to picking a framework than picking a prop.

Feature lists are the worst way to make this decision. Every phone on the market advertises a large app count, and app count says nothing about whether the app is usable during a busy night. Here is what we would actually check, in order.

1. Measure performance yourself

Idle resource usage is the number every vendor advertises, including us. It is also the least interesting number, because a phone sitting closed in a player's pocket is not what breaks a server. What matters is the cost while the phone is open, while a call is running, and while thirty people have it open at once.

  • Run resmon 1 on a test server and record the resource both closed and open.
  • Open a video call and a live stream at the same time and watch the number move.
  • Ask the vendor for a test build or check whether the demo is a real client-side build rather than a browser mockup.
  • Watch client FPS, not just server tick, when several players open the phone in the same area.

If a vendor publishes a performance figure without saying how it was measured, treat it as marketing rather than data. That applies to our numbers too: ours are measured with resmon on an otherwise idle test server, and we say so.

2. Check what the license actually covers

This is where headline prices and real cost diverge the most. Some phones are sold as a single product; others are the entry point to a catalog where the tablet, the dispatch system or the MDT are separate purchases. Before comparing two prices, make sure you are comparing the same scope.

  • Is the tablet or MDT interface part of this license or a second product?
  • Is there a per-server limit, and what happens when you run a second server?
  • Are future major versions included, or is v3 a new purchase?
  • Is the source escrowed, and which files stay open for configuration?
  • If you buy the subscription, what happens to your data when it lapses?

Price the whole scope, not the headline

Phone scripts are priced in different currencies, with and without VAT, and half of the market is on sale at any given moment. None of that is the real problem. The real problem is that two listings can look like the same product and cover a different amount of ground. Fill in this worksheet for every phone you are considering, including ours, before you compare a single number.

GKSPHONE figures as published on our store on 14 August 2026. For any other phone, take the numbers from that vendor's own store page rather than from a third-party listing site — resale and aggregator pages are frequently out of date.

That last point is worth repeating, because it costs people money. Aggregator sites, script listing directories and comparison posts often carry prices and version numbers that are a year old, sometimes for products that have since been rewritten. Whatever you are comparing, open the vendor's own store page and check the date on the changelog.

3. Framework fit is a requirement, not a preference

A phone that supports your framework on paper is not the same as a phone that integrates with the specific banking, garage, job and dispatch scripts you already run. Ask for the integration list, and ask specifically about the scripts you are not willing to replace. The honest answer from any vendor is that some integrations need a bridge file — what you want to know is whether that bridge is documented or improvised.

4. Update cadence tells you what next year looks like

A phone is not a finished product. GTA updates break things, frameworks move, and players expect the apps they see on their real phones. The most reliable signal here is a public changelog with dates: it shows both how often the vendor ships and whether they document what changed for server owners who have to merge config files.

  • Is there a public, dated changelog, or only Discord announcements?
  • Does each release list the changed files, so you know what to re-merge?
  • How long did the last three releases take to arrive after a major GTA or framework update?

5. Budget for migration, because everyone forgets it

Switching phones means moving contacts, messages, photos and app data, or telling your players they lose them. If you are moving from a free phone, ask whether a migration path exists before you buy, not after. If none exists, plan the switch for a wipe or a season break rather than a random Tuesday.

Where GKSPHONE fits

GKSPHONE V2 sits in the upper half of the market on price. One license covers the in-game phone, the tablet interface and the Real App companion together, with 40+ apps, iOS and Android themes, and coverage for ESX, QBCore, QBox and Standalone. Lifetime buyers get free lifetime updates, and every release is published with its changed files on our changelog page.

  • Best fit: servers that want the phone and tablet to be one product and one license rather than two purchases.
  • Best fit: servers that lean on social and media roleplay — feeds, streams, music, photos, disappearing snaps.
  • Best fit: teams that want deeper phone systems, such as screen damage and repair, phone health, storage limits and phone recovery, introduced in v2.7.0.
  • Not the best fit: a small server that only needs calls and messages. A free phone is a reasonable starting point, and you can upgrade when the phone starts limiting your roleplay.
  • Not the best fit: teams that want to rewrite the phone's UI from scratch. The source is escrowed, with configuration files open.

If you are comparing us against another phone, the fairest way to do it is the checklist above: measure both on your own server, price the full scope you actually need, and check the changelogs. We would rather lose a sale to a better fit than win one that gets refunded three weeks later.

Frequently asked questions

Does GKSPHONE include the tablet, or is it sold separately?

The tablet is included. One GKSPHONE V2 license covers the in-game phone, the tablet interface and the Real App companion together. There is no separate tablet purchase.

How many apps does GKSPHONE include?

40+ apps ship with the phone, with the full catalog published at gkshop.org/apps. Community Apps adds approved third-party apps on top of that.

Which frameworks does GKSPHONE support?

ESX, QBCore, QBox and Standalone. Integration details and bridge files are documented at docs.gkshop.org.

What is the difference between the lifetime license and the monthly subscription?

Both cover the same product: phone, tablet and Real App. The lifetime license is a single payment that includes free lifetime updates. The subscription is a lower entry price billed monthly.

How often is GKSPHONE updated?

Release notes with dates and changed files are published at gkshop.org/changelog. The most recent release is v2.7.0, published on 14 August 2026.

Can I migrate from my current phone script?

Migration depends on which phone you are coming from and what data you want to keep. Ask in the GKSHOP Discord with your current phone and framework before you buy, so you know what carries over.

Is the source code open?

GKSPHONE is protected with the FiveM asset escrow system. Configuration files, locales and the config layer stay open so you can adapt behaviour, prices and text to your server.
